Director of Julian Marks Estate Agents, Julian Partridge, reports on the property market in Britain’s Ocean City.
The property market in Plymouth was extremely strong in 2021, fuelled in part by the surge in demand for waterside properties as home buyers sought a post-lockdown coastal way of life. The most desirable properties achieved record sale prices and, while Christmas brought an inevitable drop in activity levels, these have already bounced back. In fact, the only potential threat to continued growth in 2022 is the lack of available properties on the market.
Thankfully, all three of our offices are now receiving good levels of instructions with properties selling quickly and a number already generating best and final bids from competing buyers.
Julian Marks Estate Agents was established in 2011 in Plymstock, an area that was recently designated a property hotspot by Rightmove due to its proximity to the coast, excellent primary and secondary schools and easy access to the city of Plymouth.
We expanded, in nearby Plympton, in 2018 and went on to acquire independent agency Alan Cummings & Co this year to establish a Plymouth city office, growing the team to 25 across our three sites.
Already the number one selling agents for Plymstock and Plympton, we have now incorporated the top selling office in the prestigious residential postcode area PL3, covering leafy Mannamead and Hartley.
As a result, we expect 2022 to be a very successful year.

Julian Marks Estate Agents was established by myself and fellow director Mark Flynn following our respective careers with corporate agents. Having worked for corporate agencies, we wanted the opportunity to do it our way. From day one, we put service at the core of our offer and that drove our passion to build an independent agency with a difference.
Between us, we have more than 60 years of experience in buying, selling and letting properties. We are totally focused on providing a first-class service and aim to obtain the best possible price for each vendor.
Lettings
Alongside property sales, the rental side of the business has grown organically, managing an extensive range of properties across Plymouth and beyond.
We also employ an in-house domestic energy assessor who carries out all energy performance certificates (EPCs) as well as inventories for rental properties.
